Rhino Recruitment are hiring an experienced Hull Inspector to join a team on a 2 year contract for the construction supervision of five new build transhipment vessels (TSV’s), at a shipyard in China.

The role will involve the construction of five new transhipment shuttle vessels (TSVs) at a Chinese shipyard, ensuring smooth Site Office operations and safe delivery. Collaborate with national and international partners from contract award through design, construction, testing, commissioning, and delivery to meet specifications, schedules, budgets, and quality standards.

This role will be a 2 year fixed contract.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and inspect the construction process of the hull and related structural components of the TSVs to ensure compliance with the project specifications and international maritime regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the shipyard's work, including steel cutting, welding, and assembly, to identify and address any quality or safety issues.
  • Take part in inspections and witness testing and be fully aware of the status of all ships under construction in terms of their compliance with the contract and approved plans.
  • Review and approve welding procedures and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to ensure the integrity of the hull structures.
  • Responsible for the plan approval process, ensuring all project drawings are updated and properly documented.
  • Work safely and to be intolerant of unsafe acts or conditions. To promote good HSSE behaviours and to stop and report any unsafe acts. Liaise with the HSSE Superintendent/Inspector and report any unsafe conditions.
  • Implement and enforce the project's quality control plan, ensuring that all hull-related activities adhere to the highest standards of workmanship and material quality.
  • Identify and report any discrepancies or deviations from the project specifications, working closely with the shipyard and project managers to resolve issues promptly.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • 10+ years in shipbuilding, with a focus on hull construction for bulk carriers or similar vessels.
  • Experience in Japanese, Korean, or Chinese shipyards and multicultural environments.
  • Proficiency in SOLAS, MARPOL, Classification rules, and international standards.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and independent working skills.
  • Structural design experience and proficiency in inspection tools and software.
  • Willingness to work abroad for ~15 months.

Desirable Requirements:

  • MSc, MBA, or certifications in Welding Inspection (CSWIP), NDT, Frosio or NACE.
  • Understanding of Chinese Language
  • Sea-going experience.

 

Salary/Rate: Monthly Pay – TBC
