Rhino Recruitment are seeking an experienced Machinery Inspector to oversee the construction of five newbuild transhipment shuttle vessels (TSVs) at a shipyard in China. The role focuses on supervising the design and construction process to ensure compliance with specifications, schedules, budgets, and quality standards while working collaboratively with international stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Machinery Supervision:
- Oversee installation, testing, commissioning, and acceptance of machinery systems, including self-unloading machinery, engines, hydraulics, HVAC, and marine battery systems.
- Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications and international standards.
- Ensure all systems are safe, maintainable, and installed per manufacturers’ guidelines.
- Supervise all installation works and commissioning of equipment related to machinery systems and equipment including, with specific knowledge of, but not limited to, self unloading machinery, main & auxiliary machinery, engines, Marine Battery Systems, engine room systems and equipment, tanks, technical outfitting, propulsions and shaft lines, hotel services, steam and water production, fuel system(s), waste disposal system(s), SRtP, hydraulics, insulation, HVAC or any other system or equipment as mentioned in the ships specification, ensuring that all aspects of these systems are inspected, verified and functionally tested to meet the requirements of the specification, defined design parameters and contractual requirements.
- Responsible to be fully familiar with the contents of the ship specification, the agreed and approved drawings, the agreed shipbuilding standards, the agreed testing and commissioning protocols.
Quality Control:
- Enforce quality control plans, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of inspections and testing, providing regular reports with findings and recommendations.
- Health, Safety, Environment, and Security:
- Promote a culture of safety and compliance, ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols.
- Identify hazards and implement corrective actions in collaboration with shipyard management.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Suggest process improvements to optimise system installation and enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in newbuilding supervision within shipbuilding, especially machinery systems for bulk carriers or self-unloading vessels.
- Expertise in self-unloading machinery, marine battery systems, and hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL, and Classification rules.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Willingness to work abroad for up to 15 months.
Desirable:
- Marine operational experience on self-unloading bulk carriers.
- Familiarity with shipyards in Japan, Korea, or China.
- Understanding of the Chinese language Beneficial.
Salary: Monthly salary TBC.
