Job Title: Health & Safety Manager – Construction/Solar Projects

Location: South Wales

Reports To: Operations Director / Project Director

Salary: £60k - £65k + Bens

Contract Type: Full-time / Permanent

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to oversee all aspects of health, safety, and environmental compliance across our construction and/or solar energy projects. This role is critical to ensuring the safety of our workforce, subcontractors, and the public while helping to maintain compliance with UK HSE legislation, CDM regulations, and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage the Health & Safety plan across all project phases, ensuring full regulatory compliance (HSAWA, CDM 2015, PUWER, LOLER, etc.).
  • Lead risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and site safety inspections/audits.
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance to safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct incident investigations, root cause analysis, and develop corrective action plans.
  • Deliver inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing training to promote a positive safety culture.
  • Act as the main point of contact for enforcing authorities (HSE, local councils, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate HSE documentation and reporting, including accident/near-miss logs and KPI dashboards.
  • Champion best practice in sustainability and environmental awareness on-site.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation and advise senior leadership accordingly.

Requirements

  • NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent (essential).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role within construction or solar/PV installation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of UK HSE legislation and construction regulations, including CDM 2015.
  • Experience conducting site audits, investigations, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • TechIOSH or GradIOSH status (preferred).
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in solar farm construction, battery energy storage systems (BESS), or renewable energy sectors.
  • Environmental qualification (IEMA or similar) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards (45001, 14001) and management systems.
