An Introduction to Graduate Job Hunting

With virtual graduation ceremonies now taking place and summer well and summer in lockdown now in full swing, the majority of graduates will be focused on making their first career moves, wanting to make an explosive entrance into the world of work.

Here at RhinoRecruitment.com, we are proud to be working with all types of graduates across the UK, helping the young minds of our country find roles in which they can excel in. But, getting an employer to take a punt on you without any experience can be difficult, with the graduate jobs market being incredibly competitive.

But, it’s not all doom and gloom. In fact, in 2019, the UK reported the lowest graduate unemployment rate in 39 years.

If you are fresh out of a university and weighing up your career options, below are a few tips to take on board.

Get your CV up-to-date

When deciding that you want a job, your first port of call should be your CV. This is because your CV is the key item in the job-seeking toolkit, showcasing your skills, qualifications and aspirations to potential employers.

When making amendments to your CV, be sure to include all of the following:

  • An introduction. This should highlight your experience, current employment position and career goals in a concise manner.

  • Your full name, date of birth, home address, telephone number and email address

  • Details of GCSE’s, AS Levels, A Levels and University courses and any other completed courses.

  • A full breakdown of relevant work history, highlighting previous roles and the responsibilities they entailed.

  • Any relevant work experience or volunteer work you have carried out.

  • Details of references.

Upload your CV to job sites

While job sites are mostly used by candidates, they are also utilised by employers and recruitment agents. This is why uploading your CV onto various job sites is advised. Putting your CV in front of an increased number of eyes, using job sites is a must!

Get social

Utilising the wonders of social media is an advantageous move when looking for a job. However, representing yourself in the right way is essential. This is why you should ensure your profile and cover images are professional and bios are geared towards career goals.
