Covid-19: 86% of Construction Sites in England and Wales Reopen

Trade body, Build UK, has this week updated us on the number of operational construction sites in England and Wales. According to the stats, contractors are now working on 86% of construction and infrastructure sites as the industry continues to gather pace.

Businesses returning to the working environment include the likes of Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke, Kier, McAlpine, Skanska, Bouygues, Bam, Vinci, Wates, Mace, Willmott Dixon and Morgan Sindall.

As well as a spike in activity, Build UK has also reported an increase in productivity on site in the last week, with work levels up a huge 75%. However, there are still various challenges in central London, where output is slightly lower than the national average at 68%.

The Scottish construction industry is in a different position altogether, with just 19% of projects running and output at just 22%.

The number of construction workers on the Furlough scheme is also starting to reduce as construction activity picks up. Currently, 22% of construction workers are Furloughed. This is down 8% from last month.

What’s more, construction sites are now actively recruiting for both temporary and permanent positions. This is something the Rhinorecruitment.com are helping with, ensuring construction employers can access the right workers for their sites and vice versa.
