Covid-19: Construction Workers to be the First to Return to Work

It is no secret that Covid-19 has had a huge impact on the construction industry, with busy construction sites brimming with active workers seeming like a distant memory.

While construction sites were one of the last types of businesses to shut its doors, many believe they will also be one of the first to reopen.

According to the Construction Industry Federation (CIF), construction sites should be part of the first phase of the economy to get restarted.

Director, Tom Parlon, says he is “very hopeful” construction activity will gather momentum over the coming weeks, with workers being phased back to work as soon as it is safe to do so. However, measures will be taken to practice social distancing on site along with various other guidelines when it comes to travel.

These are suggestions being mulled over by government; suggestions created by the federation following wide consultation.

As well as staggered working hours and additional sanitation facilities on-site, all workers will also have to complete an online induction programme to ensure they understand the rules. This will include training on how to commute safely and social distance at work.
