How to Improve your Chances of Finding a Construction Job

The construction jobs market is hugely competitive right now, with the impact of the virus taking its toll. From record redundancies to more and more construction firms going into administration, it is understandable why construction jobseekers may be worried. However, in December, the number of construction jobs being advertised spiked considerably, meaning more jobs (a 43% increase from the last quarter) for those seeking new opportunities. However, the spike in vacancies is matched by a spike in jobseekers, meaning the unemployed have to do all they can to stand out and bag the opportunities that are presented to them.

Below, we at Rhinorecruitment.com take a look at a few things that candidates can do to stand out and give themselves the best chance of securing that desired role.

Update your CV - your CV will play a key role in how successful your job search is, being a point of reference that all employers and recruiters will refer back to in order to gauge your suitability for a role. Making sure it is fully up-to-date is therefore paramount.

Brush up your LinkedIn profile - more than 75% of recruiters and employers will look at LinkedIn to get more of an in-depth picture of a candidate’s professional background. Making sure your profile is updated with your latest job posts and biography will enhance your chances of making a good impression online.

Get your references arranged - the amount of time between a job offer being accepted and the start date has accelerated of late, with construction companies needing to get new talent on board quickly. For this reason, it is advised that you have all of your documentation ready, including details of references as well as proof of identification and qualifications.

Get in early - with the jobs market being so competitive, getting your CV sent over to a prospective employer as soon as possible is always a good idea.

Don’t be afraid to be ambitious - worried a role you have seen advertised is above your pay grade? Remember, it often pays to be ambitious, with many recruiters looking at much more than qualifications and past roles when making recruitment decisions.
