Interview Tips for 2020

Being invited to a job interview was once a formality where everyone knew what they were doing, with candidates asked a conventional set of questions in a board room whilst dressed their best.

However, as the years have gone by, the job interview has changed shape dramatically. From the use of technology to group interviews, now being asked to attend a job interview can fill you with various emotions.

Below, we take a look at some interview tips candidates may want to consider before attending an interview in 2020.

Prepare for video interviews

2020 is set to be a big year for technology in recruitment, with more businesses investing in their use of tech and their tech knowledge. This means we can expect to see employers utilising the wonders of video. This is especially the case when it comes to interviewing.

With free tools such as FaceTime, Facebook Video Calling and Skype all at our disposal, video interviewing is an easy, hassle-free way to conduct an interview.

So, if you are seeking a job in 2020, it is worth getting comfortable behind a camera, ensuring that if you are asked to be interviewed via video, you are well prepared.

Have your CV to hand

Before interviewing candidates, the interviewer used to have a quick scan over their CV. Now, employers and recruiters spend a lot more time vetting candidates and scoring CVS, drilling down into statements made, past experiences and pretty much every detail stated.

This is why as a job seeker, you need to know your CV inside out, being 100% confident in the statements you have made when heading into an interview.

Demonstrate your soft skills

As mentioned in our previous blog on hiring trends, modern employers are eager to see candidates demonstrating soft skills. There are interpersonal (people) skills.

Brushing up or showing examples of the following skills is, therefore, a wise move:

  • Teamwork

  • Communication Skills

  • Problem Solving Skills

  • Work Ethic

  • Flexibility/Adaptability

  • Leadership
