What Recruiters Want to See on CVs in 2020

2019 was an interesting year for recruitment. From new equal opportunity laws being introduced to Brexit seeing recruitment activity wain, it is safe to say that there were highs matched with lows.

But, as the New Year encroaches, our attention turns to 2020.  Below, we explore the CV features recruiters will be looking at.

Unique introductions

For years recruiters have read the same introduction on CVs, with over 50% of CV intros being copied and pasted from the internet. In 2020, recruiters will be valuing individuals that showcase their personality, enjoying seeing candidates get creative with their introduction.

Voluntary work

As a nation, we are becoming a lot more sympathetic to world issues such as poverty, homelessness and the environment. As a result, so are the recruiters and employers of the UK. For this reason, candidates dedicating their spare time to voluntary and charity work may be looked upon favourably.

Experience, experience, experience

Many years ago, employers and recruitment agents didn’t want to see people swapping and changing their job constantly, seeing the huge value in loyal candidates with just a few previous jobs under their belt. But things have changed, with employers understanding the shift in behaviour. Now, the Millennial group stays in one job for an average of 3 years, with the ‘job for life’ very much being a thing of the past.

Now, recruiters look at candidates with lots of job history positively, focusing on the skills that they have gained in each post.

Hobbies and interests

As mentioned in many of our previous blog posts, culture fit is a huge priority for the recruitment world, with both clients and candidates wanting to work with people that they like, respect and find intriguing. This is why listing hobbies and interests on your CV is worth doing, showing another side of you that could strike a chord with a recruiter or hiring manager.
