Overview

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our client’s growing commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to develop their career within office refurbishment and commercial fit-out projects.

Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers, the successful candidate will assist in the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account, gaining valuable experience across all aspects of quantity surveying.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing cost estimates, budgets, and tender submissions for office refurbishment projects.
  • Support the commercial management of projects throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Assist with procurement of subcontractors and suppliers, including preparing enquiries and analysing quotations.
  • Help prepare subcontractor packages, valuations, and payment applications.
  • Monitor project costs and assist with identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Support the preparation of interim valuations, applications for payment, variations, and final accounts.
  • Maintain accurate cost records, commercial documentation, and project files.
  • Assist with monthly cost reporting and forecasting.
  • Work closely with Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Site Managers, Design Teams, and clients to support successful project delivery.
  • Assist with value engineering exercises while maintaining quality and programme requirements.
  • Build positive working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Ensure company procedures and contractual requirements are followed.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline, or currently working towards one.
  • Previous experience in a construction or commercial environment (placement, graduate, trainee, or assistant QS experience considered).
  • Strong interest in office refurbishment, commercial fit-out, or interior construction projects.
  • Good understanding of construction processes and commercial principles.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Full UK driving licence or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience within office refurbishment or commercial fit-out projects.
  • Knowledge of JCT contracts.
  • Experience using commercial management software such as COINS, Causeway, or similar.
  • Working towards professional membership with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or equivalent.
  • Understanding of value engineering and sustainable construction practices.

Experience Required

The successful candidate will ideally have 6 months to 3 years' experience within a construction or commercial environment. Experience in office refurbishment, commercial fit-out, or interior refurbishment projects would be advantageous but is not essential. Graduates with relevant placements or industrial experience are encouraged to apply.
